I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of vibrant poppies flowing along this grassy hill. Making sure to not over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Popping Magic is loaded with texture, color and movement. Vertical diagonal rows of ruby jewel tones lead your eye to the foliage in the distance, inviting you to stroll amongst the gorgeous wildflowers. “Popping Magic” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

I painted “Popping Magic III” this spring not too far from my home. This might have been one of the best years for the poppies and wildflowers. The explosion of color was incredible! This morning started out slightly overcast, and the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that radiant light and joyful energy illuminating your journey as you wander through this magical field of blooming glory. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom!

Painting Glorious Poppy Fields with Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Surrounded by a sea of crimson, not only were the wildflowers magnificent this year, but I just adore old, giant trees, too. Their massive stature and their outstretched branches creating a beautiful canopy and much needed umbrella of shade, just make me want to paint them over and over again. Leaving poppies large and prominent in the foreground, rows and rows of ruby jewel-toned blooms lift your spirits and lead you back to the shelter of the grandfather tree. I hope you, too, can enjoy the beauty of this uplifting place in all of its spring glory.

“Sun’s Bounty III” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Just Sold through AO5 Gallery! Sun’s Bounty is inspired from the beautiful sunflower fields we visited in Provence, France. The flowers seemed to stretch forever and the color explosion was out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this happy location. Including surprising pops of vivid reds and purples keeps your eye moving throughout the scene, seeing new things each time you look at it, and adds to the joyful feeling.
