Palette Knife Iris Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Flowing into Spring III” ©2018 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas • Lee Park, Dallas
Framed in a 2″ espresso floater frame

Painted on location at Lee Park in Dallas, I loved how the irises signaled that spring was in full bloom. Standing tall, anchoring this corner of the creek these purple blooms lead your eye up through the canvas, along the water’s edge to the stone bridge in the distance. The soft light adds to the peacefulness of this tranquil spot, and I hope all of your cares are transported away while lifting your spirits.

New Lavender Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

“Lavender Dreams” ©2018 Niki Gulley
24” x 24” textured oil on canvas

The lavender fields in Provence are incredible – perfectly manicured rows and rows of an explosion of violet as far as the eye can see. Rippling purple rows draw your eye to the lone stone farmhouse in the distance while clouds drift by also in rhythmic waves, both creating a flowing harmony. Perspective lines converge, leading you to this joyful spot and I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene! For more information on “Lavender Dreams”, please contact my gallery, the Good Art Company Gallery, in Fredericksburg, goodartcompany.com/gac/.

“Autumn Progression” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Progression” ©2018 Niki Gulley
textured oil painting on canvas • 12″ x 24″ • Framed in espresso 2″ floater frame

Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze while white sentinels slice through the colorful backdrop and create a rhythm as they march along. Repeating and receding, the aspen trunks lead you into the distance, inviting you to take a relaxing walk on a beautiful autumn morning.

New “Autumn Cascades” Palette Knife Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Cascades” ©2018 Niki Gulley
12” x 24” textured oil on canvas

Water pounds its way down the falls: cascading, rushing, charging into the riverbed — flowing over rocks, swiftly moving forward. Untamed, the surge finds its way over, under, around the boulder-strewn river. Tumbling waters drive up mists above the falls, the rhythmic sounds create a soothing harmony below, while autumn colors glow as we peer through the tangle of textured Aspen trees.

“Peaceful Poppies” ©2018 Niki Gulley
11″ x 14” textured oil painting, framed in espresso

I was particularly drawn to this peaceful scene with the calm waters in the distance and the happy clouds drifting by overhead. The explosion of crimson from the poppies was so vibrant and beautiful that I had to capture the moment. Working with palette knife and thick oil paint, this painting is loaded with texture, color and movement. I hope you, too, can feel a sense of peace and joy when you gaze into this landscape.

“Morning Glow” oil painting by Contemporary Impressionist Artist Niki Gulley

“Morning Glow, White Rock Lake” ©2018 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 20″ x 16″

On a peaceful spring morning, I set up my easel at White Rock Lake to capture the sun rising behind this beautiful, tangled Cottonwood tree. I liked how the warm light showed off the tree’s curves and textured bark, and I chose this vertical composition to show off its size and strength. In the distance, the sun glistens along the water’s surface and I hope this scene lifts your spirits for what the day has to bring.

“Diagonal Patterns” Palette Knife Lavender Field Painting by Niki Gulley

“Diagonal Patterns,” Provence ©2018 Niki Gulley
9″ x 12″ textured oil painting

I painted “Diagonal Patterns” on location in Provence during our Plein Air Painting and Photography Art Trek Workshop my husband and I led in France. The lavender fields were amazing, and stretched as far as the eye could see! I wanted to focus on these perfectly planted purple rows, contrasted against the vibrant yellow sunflowers in the distance. I loved how those colors popped next to each other! I chose to lower the horizon line so that I could include these amazing clouds drifting by in diagonal patterns that mimicked the lavender aisles.  That also gave the painting an idea of space so that you could sense the fragrant purple beauties stretching for miles. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, the final image is loaded with color, texture and movement!

“Visions of Wildflowers” Palette Knife Bluebonnet Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“Visions of Wildflowers” ©2018 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms slightly abstract plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

“Visions of Blue III” Palette Knife Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Visions of Blue III,” Texas Hill Country ©2018 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil painting

I painted these Texas Bluebonnets and wildflowers with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this vertical wildflower series, I’ve framed the paintings in espresso floater frames so that you can still see the textured oil paint continuing around the edges of the canvas. These Texas wildflowers look great hung alone or in a grouping with the rest of the “Visions of Blue” series, too!
