“Spring Forward III” Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

“Spring Forward III” ©2022 Niki Gulley
20″ x 24″ textured mixed media painting on canvas

I painted “Spring Forward” while visiting the Texas Hill Country. The explosion of color along roadsides was incredible! This morning the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that magical light illuminating your journey lined by bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom!

“Perched on High” Palette Knife Painting from Tuscany by Niki Gulley

“Perched on High,” Tuscany ©2021 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting on canvas panel

Just Sold! Painted during our Tuscany Foodie Trek that we lead, I had been admiring this view from the back of our villa that we stay at over the course of the week. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking with 360 degree views of rolling hills and valleys, dotted by olive groves and quintessential Tuscan farmhouses. In particular, I was attracted to this stone house with its window awning casting a diagonal shadow across its facade, nestled in between cypress, and the rolling countryside as a backdrop behind it. Painted late in the day, the sun was beginning to set creating gorgeous colors in the sky and casting a golden glow on everything it kissed in the foreground. May you be transported to the magic of Tuscany!

New “Garden Glory” Textured Oil Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Garden Glory” ©2022 Niki Gulley
24″ x 20″ Textured oil painting on 1″ Cradled Board with the painting continuing around the edges

After several months of 90 to 100 degree temperatures, I have been relishing the cool mornings and highs in the 80s. Once more my backyard was calling me to set up my easel and capture all of our hard-earned efforts. My hours of weeding, watering, pruning and planting all paid off and I have thoroughly enjoyed our colorful bounty of blooms! From beautiful, tangled Russian sage, to vibrant red and yellow cannas, to cheerful sunflowers that blossomed all summer long, our garden’s symphony lifted our spirits daily.

New “Olive Grove” from Tuscany by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Olive Grove,” Tuscany ©2022 Niki Gulley
10″ x 20″ textured oil painting

During our Tuscany Foodie Trek, we headed to the wine town of Montalcino to sample some of Italy’s world famous Brunello. On our way, we stopped at this beautiful convent with massive ancient olive trees growing on the grounds. In the distance, you can see the nearby hill town with vineyards and more olive groves lining the hillside. I wanted to capture the beauty of those regal olive trees on a beautiful sun-filled day in Tuscany.

New “Sunrise in St. Mark’s Square” Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Sunrise in St. Mark’s Square” Venice ©2022 Niki Gulley

12″ x 16″ textured oil painting

I painted this piece on location in Venice during our Art Trek we taught in Venice while their infamous Carnival celebration was taking place. Since St. Mark’s Square can get overrun with tourists, we chose to get up with sunrise to enjoy the beauty of the city and the peacefulness of those early morning hours. I love the magical light that comes flooding in from the lagoon and is so distinctive of Venice. Fortunately, I got set up in time to capture the glow from the gas lamps, too, before they went out as daylight approached, adding to the mysterious quality of the plaza. Against a backdrop of the Doge’s Palace, a few people stroll across the square and signal the energy of the day that is to come.

Just Delivered to a good new home! Lake Como, Italy is probably my favorite spot from all of our travels, so I was thrilled when my collectors asked me to paint a custom painting from this region.

The vistas are simply breathtaking with the alps in the background, the gorgeous blue of the lake, the brightly colored unique buildings and the lush foliage dotting the magnificent gardens. I love this little laid back town of Varenna, which is so peaceful that all of your cares just melt away. I’m sure my commissioned painting will help bring back fond memories for my collectors of their travelers and bring some peace and joy to their beautiful home!

“Serpentine Drive” in Tuscany by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

“Serpentine Drive” ©2022 Niki Gulley
12″ x 16″ textured oil painting

Before we taught our Tuscany Foodie Trek, my husband and I spent a few days exploring the Tuscan countryside, painting and photographing the iconic scenery. “Serpentine Drive” illustrates one of the fascinating places we stopped with its mile long cypress lined drive. It felt like the trees snaked back and forth to infinity! Setting up my easel in late afternoon, I was able to capture the dramatic light as the setting sun illuminated the tops of the rolling hills and created long, dramatic shadows. Between the repetition of the vertical arbors and the horizontally flowing hills, the scene created a rhythmic harmony that added to the joy and serenity of the moment.

Nestled in a valley with its long arbor-lined driveway, this villa is set against the perfect backdrop for a romantic escape. Undulating rows of wheatfields and vineyards draw your eye back through the rolling hills and beautiful billowing clouds drift overhead.  Late day sunlight casts dramatic shadows creating a rhythm beckoinging you to journey down the drive, guiding you home.

New Tuscany Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Misty Morning,” Tuscany ©2022 Niki Gulley
16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

On this morning in Tuscany, we decided to get up really early so that we could capture sunrise over this beautiful valley. The hills were surrounded by a layer of mist that created this ethereal, peaceful quality to the morning. I really liked how the fog accentuated the miles and miles of rolling landscape, perfectly off-setting the villa surrounded by cypress and olive groves in the foreground. While I’m not usually an early morning person, this turned out to be a very inspiring moment!
