Just Sold! I painted “Walking in Beauty” on location when we visited New England this fall during the height of fall foliage. The kaleidoscope of autumn colors was ablaze, and I was attracted to the dappled light raking across the trail, illuminating the winding path and golden grasses. The sunlight was almost beckoning us to enjoy a peaceful, relaxing walk in the woods!

While we painted, everyone else went into Stowe to shop, explore and photograph some more. After a wonderful morning and lunch, we said our good-byes and hoped to meet again soon on a future Art Trek.

“Rooted Together” Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

Rooted Together was inspired from a trip we took to Monet’s Gardens outside of Paris. Being a lover of impressionist paintings, I was awestruck standing in the footsteps of one of my favorite painters! The gardens have been maintained immacuately and I could see exactly where he painted his paintings. I’ve always loved purple irises and was particularly drawn to this view, with the irises large in the foreground and all of the colorful blooms leading up to his house behind them. Painted with thick oil paint and palette knife, this canvas is loaded with texture, surprising pops of color and energy.

Just Sold! I painted these Texas Bluebonnets and wildflowers with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this vertical wildflower series, I’ve framed the paintings in espresso floater frames so that you can still see the textured oil paint continuing around the edges of the canvas. These Texas wildflowers look great hung alone or in a grouping with the rest of the “Visions of Blue” series, too!

Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Day 5 – Stowe, VT
 
On the last day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek that my husband, Scott Williams, and I taught, we painters stayed right at our b and b to capture the beautiful views of fall foliage in all its splendor. I decided to paint this view out back, since I’d been admiring it every day of the trip. It was a gorgeous morning with vibrant fall colors frosting the foliage. This set of Adirondack chairs was so inviting, just welcoming you to sit, relax and enjoy the view. Long side lighting created dramatic shadows and a glow to the grasses. I hope you can escape and rejuvenate with me!
 
While we painted, everyone else went into Stowe to shop, explore and photograph some more. After a wonderful morning and lunch, we said our good-byes and hoped to meet again soon on a future Art Trek.

Painting and Photographing in Stowe, VT with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Day 4 – Stowe, VT
 
On the fourth day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek, we headed to the top of Stowe Mountain to explore. The painters set out to capture this gorgeous forest ablaze with color. I loved the split rail fence lining the walkway. Meanwhile, the photographers and tourists ventured on foot through the forest and then continued to explore by car the surrounding area, picking us up for lunch on their return. 
 
That afternoon we visited local cheese and cider companies tasting Vermont’s treats. In the evening we enjoyed viewing everyone’s paintings and watching the photographers’ slide shows from the week. Afterwards we delighted in one last dinner together. A great treat with new friends after a fun-filled day!

Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Day 3, Morning Location – Northfield, VT
 
On the third day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek that my husband and I led, we checked out of our lodging in Woodstock and headed to Northfield, home of 5 different covered bridges. We set up our easels near one of the bridges, attracted to its bright red wood, surrounded by the gorgeous fall foliage. I loved this view of the first bridge framing the second ruby bridge in the distance – something we definitely don’t see in Texas! I hope you, too, are transported to this idyllic New England setting.
