This series or Texas wildflowers, bearded irises and ruby red poppies, incorporates extremely thick paint applied with palette knife along with drips and swirls to add energy and whimsy. I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful April day when the Texas wildflowers are painting the horizon in their uplifting palette. Driving through the hill country in springtime, there is such an amazing explosion of color from the bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, coreopsis, Evening Primrose and the plethora of wildflowers, that it fills your heart with joy and awe. Focusing on the rows of varied hues, I wanted to communicate the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this beauty.

 

I painted “Spring Forward” while visiting the Texas Hill Country. The explosion of color along roadsides was incredible! This morning the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that magical light illuminating your journey lined by bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom!
