SOLD • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting on 3/4″ wrap around canvas

with the painting continuing around the edges

Just Sold! This sunflower field that I visited in the middle of the pandemic was GORGEOUS. It felt like it stretched for miles. Bright, happy faces sharing their smiles with us and lifting our spirits. My heart literally swelled and I had to capture all of that joy on canvas.  Utilizing vivid, uplifting hues, thick paint and bold, loose strokes add to the happy, carefree feeling of the moment and I hope you are transported there with me.

New “Sun’s Glory” Abstract Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

“Sun’s Glory” ©2021 Niki Gulley
36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. The sun rises on the horizon, casting its beautiful glow across golden petals while perky, circular faces smile back at you. Magical light dances through the morning field, bringing sunshine and hope for the day to come.

I’m excited to have been invited to exhibit amongst the talented artists at Marigold Arts gallery in Santa Fe, NM! “Sun’s Glory” and several of my Southwest landscapes will be hanging there, so if you are in the area, please stop in and visit or check them out online, http://www.marigoldarts.com.

Just Sold – “Perseverance” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

SOLD • 48″ x 36″ • Textured oil painting on canvas

During one of our plein air painting workshops that we lead in Santa Fe, we chose this beautiful location near Georgia O’Keefe’s home of Ghost Ranch. I loved the way the sun illuminated the rocky cliffs and the robust, fluffy clouds that drifted above us. Reaching for the sky, hopeful and steadfast, this one lone tree persevered despite the odds.

If you’d like more information on my contemporary landscape paintings, please e-mail Niki Gulley.

Or, if you are in the Ohio area, please stop by my booth at the Columbus Arts Festival this weekend.

“Road Trip II” New Palette Knife oil painting

“Road Trip II” ©2013 Niki Gulley
16″ x 20” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

The first time we went to Santa Fe and headed north to Ghost Ranch, I was awestruck by the incredible scenery. The terrain starts to change as you near Abiquiu with the rock formations becoming more colorful, jagged and varied, and the light seemed to become purer, too. So in Road Trip II, I not only wanted to capture the rugged beauty of this place, but also the excitement of discovery and the anticipation of what’s to come.

Painting the Aspen Trail

SANTA FE ART TREK:  Plein Air Painting / Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams
Day 2, afternoon location – Aspen Trail
9″ x 12″ textured oil by Niki Gulley

On day 2 of our Santa Fe Art Trek, the temperature started rising in the afternoon, so we headed up into the mountains for cooler breezes to paint the beautiful aspen trees. We were attracted to the brilliant white trunks with their unique peeling bark and dark protruding knots. I liked how the soft dappled light came through the trees and illuminated the path, leading into the distance. Becoming totally lost in the moment, we set out to capture the peacefulness and contentment we felt that afternoon.
Above: Some of our students painting in the aspen grove, listening to the sounds of the babbling brook nearby. A perfect day!
