Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley Paints Cathartic Seascapes

“Rolling Tide II” ©2023 Niki Gulley
12″ x 12″ textured acrylic painting on canvas panel

I wanted this painting to be about the power of the ocean to lift your spirits. Painting this piece on location, I was hoping you could feel the ocean tides lapping on the shore and hear the rhythmic, soothing sounds of the waves cresting and falling like I was experiencing while painting it. Whenever I visit the beach I always feel rejuvenated, and I hope I’ve translated that onto the canvas for you to experience it, too.

Contemporary Seascape Painting by Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Rolling Tide” ©2023 Niki Gulley
12″ x 12″ textured acrylic painting on canvas panel

I am so longing for a refreshing dip in the ocean! How about you?

I wanted this painting to be about the power of the ocean to lift your spirits. Painting this piece on location, I strove to capture the sparkle the sun cast across the turquoise waters as it slowly rose above the horizon. Creating bobbing diamonds of sparkling light across the surface was truly mesmerizing to watch.

“Symphony in Springtime VI” ©2023 Niki Gulley

36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. I liked how these rows of poppies and rolling grasses created a gentle harmony, inviting you to wander into the distance, getting lost in the moment. Full of color and hope, may my “Symphony in Springtime” transport you to a happy serene place.

“Rural Blues” Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Rural Blues” ©2023 Niki Gulley
10″ x 20″ textured mixed media painting on canvas

On our drive through Ennis this spring, the bluebonnets were so full and thick along Sugar Bush ridge. So, I set up my easel to capture this beautiful, peaceful view. I loved how the undulating hills, tree lines in the distance and wildflowers in the foreground all repeated similar shapes and wave-like patterns adding to the feeling of symmetry and serenity. I hope you, too, can feel the joy and glory of springtime in Texas!

“Blossoming Dreams II” Abstract Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

24″ x 36″ textured mixed media painting on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the bluebonnets and wildflowers along with their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way. With an aura of mystery, late day light touches the tops of the grasses and hills with glimmers of hope.

SOLD • 36″ x 36″ textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

Just sold through AO5 Gallery! I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. With an aura of mystery and the promise of what tomorrow holds, late day light sparkles over the horizon casting its warm glow kissing everything it touches with glimmers of hope. The vague suggestion of bluebonnets and colorful wildflowers peek through the dancing golden tangle, leaving the landscape loose and free so that your imagination can tell its story. May you relish the joy in the beauty of nature, bathing in the moment and looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.

Abstract Poppy Field Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Nature’s Brushstrokes II” ©2022 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24″ x 24″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold! In this painting, I wanted to render vibrant poppies and wildflowers very abstractly. Focusing on the patterns of color that those vivid reds and cobalt blues form, allows you to feel the excitement of peering into a huge field of blooming glory. Mysterious light tries to break through the distant foliage and  begin to illuminate the blossoms, beckoning you to explore what’s beyond.
