“Blue Rhapsody” Textured Abstract Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

“Blue Rhapsody” ©2022 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold through The Good Art Company Gallery! In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

20″ x 24″ textured mixed media painting on canvas

I painted “Spring Forward” while visiting the Texas Hill Country. The explosion of color along roadsides was incredible! This morning the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that magical light illuminating your journey lined by bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom!

I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the bluebonnets and wildflowers along with their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way. “Spring’s Tapestry” ©2020 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold through the Good Art Company! In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful day in April when the bluebonnets and wildflowers are painting the horizon in gorgeous shades of blue, reds and golds. Driving through the Hill Country late one day, the sun was just starting to drop, casting this golden hue across all of the wildflowers it hit causing them to glow and dance in the warm light. Deep, long  shadows added to the drama and magic of the moment. Focusing on the patterns of color and contrast of lights and darks, I wanted to communicate the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this Texas beauty.

I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. With an aura of mystery and the promise of what tomorrow holds, late day light sparkles over the horizon casting its warm glow kissing everything it touches with glimmers of hope. The vague suggestion of bluebonnets and colorful wildflowers peek through the dancing golden tangle, leaving the landscape loose and free so that your imagination can tell its story. May you relish the joy in the beauty of nature, bathing in the moment and looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.

Abstract Bluebonnet and Indian Paintbrush Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Nature’s Brushstrokes III” ©2022 Niki Gulley
36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted to render Texas bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush very abstractly. Focusing on the patterns of color that those vibrant reds and cobalt blues form, allows you to feel the excitement of peering into a huge field of wildflower glory. Mysterious light tries to break through the distant foliage and begin to illuminate the blossoms, beckoning you to explore what’s beyond.

This idyllic setting just screamed Texas to me and I had to paint it. The quintessential windmill spins in the distance, signaling a change in seasons as spring leaps forward. Colorful bluebonnets fill the landscape, inviting you to wander through wildflower fields, noble oaks and onto hilltops ahead, sure to treat your journey with amazing views of the Texas Hill Country.

“Azures Waves” Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Azure Waves” ©2021 Niki Gulley
12″ x 24″ textured mixed media painting on canvas

On our drive through Ennis this spring, the bluebonnets were so full and thick along Sugar Bush ridge. So, I set up my easel to capture this beautiful, peaceful view. I loved how the undulating rows of the clouds, treetops along the hills and wildflowers in the foreground all repeated similar shapes and wave-like patterns adding to the feeling of symmetry and serenity. I hope you, too, can feel the joy and glory of springtime in Texas!
