Autumn Aspen Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

I loved this brilliant aspen forest with its bright white aspen trunks slicing through all of the vibrant red and yellow foliage. The patterns of the trees created a sort of rhythm and I focused on the placement of the ivory sentinels, the diagonal purple shadows that they cast and the rustling of the leaves to add to that musical feeling. I hope you, too, can sense the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn is in full swing.

Joyful Mountainous Wildflower Painting by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

“Mountain Majesty” • 36″ x 48″ textured acrylic painting

Colorful wildflowers fill Colorado’s undulating grassy hills with joy and hope. Sweeping clouds dance overhead while nature’s palette puts on a harmonic concert below. Making sure to not over blend my thick strokes allows you to see the marks and feel the peaceful energy. Repeating patterns and waves of greens, golds and blues create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

Painting Poppy Fields in Tuscany with Niki Gulley

This beautiful poppy scene was inspired by the view out our window in Tuscany! The vibrant red carpet filled fields lifted our spirits every time we gazed outside, and I had to paint this one from our room. Cypress trees framed the scene and the constantly changing light cast dramatic shadows on the distant mountains and villa while billowing clouds drifted by. I hope this one transports you to this happy place and takes all of your worries with it!

Painting Fall at the North Carolina Arboretum by Impressionist Niki Gulley

Today I joined the Asheville Plein Air Painters at the North Carolina Arboretum. While several of the trails were closed from the hurricane, the main gardens were open and it turned out to be a gorgeous afternoon. Being in the mountains, you never know what the weather is going to do. So with the threat of rain, I decided to stay right at our campsite underneath the awning just in case. And, why not when this is the view??? So many first responders were staying on the premises, coming and going, chatting while passing and I was pleased that I could add some brightness to their day. I hope this one lifts your spirits, too!

Palette Knife Painter Niki Gulley Paints Covered Bridges

Just Sold! We have landed in New York, about an hour from Buffalo, in Scott’s hometown. The fall leaves are just barely turning colors and the temps are in the 70s. Beautiful!

Our first stop – Scott played a round of golf with old friends and since the grounds were so pretty, I decided to set up my easel at the golf course. So, here is my first painting of a covered bridge. This was a great introduction to more covered bridges to come!

“Autumn Hideaway” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Just Sold! After we finished teaching our Art Trek to Vermont, my husband and I stayed another few days to try to capture the gorgeous scenery on canvas and film. This morning, we ventured up to the majestic overlook by the Von Trapp property to capture the spectacular scenery. I loved how this cabin was perfectly tucked into the mountainside surrounded by vibrant fall foliage. The slightly overcast day made the colors pop even more! I hope you, too, can enjoy the crisp autumn air and a peaceful escape from the bustle of city life.
