New Commissioned Oil Painting from Lake Como by Niki Gulley

Lake Como, Italy ©2022 Niki Gulley
SOLD • oil on canvas • 24″ x 48″

Just Delivered to a good new home! Lake Como, Italy is probably my favorite spot from all of our travels, so I was thrilled when my collectors asked me to paint a custom painting from this region.

The vistas are simply breathtaking with the alps in the background, the gorgeous blue of the lake, the brightly colored unique buildings and the lush foliage dotting the magnificent gardens. I love this little laid back town of Varenna, which is so peaceful that all of your cares just melt away. I’m sure my commissioned painting will help bring back fond memories for my collectors of their travelers and bring some peace and joy to their beautiful home!

“Autumn Awakening” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Autumn Awakening” • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting
SOLD •  ©2021 Niki Gulley

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! As we were nearing the end of our New England adventure, the temperature dropped 30 degrees overnight and we woke up to 20 degrees and frost the next morning. Luckily the view out our window was beautiful and I could continue to paint the magnificent fall foliage from the comfort of indoors that morning! The lighting coming through the clouds was so dramatic, causing the leaves to glow. The soft breeze that was blowing caused the foliage to sway and dance to its own rhythm and I wanted to capture that movement and energy in “Autumn Awakening.” I liked how the distant mountain was a deep shade of purple since the sun wasn’t on it, and how it set off the contrasting complimentary colors in the foreground. Created with palette knife and thick paint, this canvas is loaded with texture, color and movement.

“A Knot in the Woods” Abstract Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Knot in the Woods” ©2022 Niki Gulley
30″ x 30″ textured mixed media painting
on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

Bordering on the edge of abstraction and the cusp of realism, Knot in the Woods is loaded with layers of paint, built up with thin glazes and then palette knife to create extreme dimension. Choosing to come in tight on the subject, I played around with various strokes and paint thicknesses to add depth and dimension. Splashes of gold and pops of fire-engine red add excitement and energy to the expansive aspen forest.

“Knot in the Woods II” ©2022 Niki Gulley

20″ x 30″ textured mixed media painting
on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

Scrolling bark peels back like white washed parchment revealing secrets in the deeply textured wood below. A painting of grace and beauty, its verticality is offset by diagonal glowing autumn colors. Each stroke defined by thick textured paint and rich colors contrasted against subtle ivories, strike a reverberating chord and create a visual vibration that resonates in an optical song.

Red Rose Painting by Contemporary Expressionist Niki Gulley

“A Rose by Any Other Name” #9 ©2022 Niki Gulley
5″ x 5″ textured acrylic painting

A rose is a rose, is a rose. Not in my backyard – they are what I look at first thing in the morning as I am waiting on my coffee. I love to look out the windows to see if I have any new blooms and what color they are today. That way I can get an idea of what I want to paint that day.
