“Along the Shoreline” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

January 11, 2022

“Along the Shoreline” ©2021 Niki Gulley
14″ x 18” textured oil painting on canvas

Early on a fall morning the sun breaks softly through leafy branches and casts early autumn’s palette across the creek. Silent water is ruffled by a gentle breeze. Arching over, bending into the quiet waters, a tree arches into the scene – encompassing, embracing. This painting captures the dreamy reflections and tranquil landscape of one of my favorite spots to paint on location near my home. It is painted in the traditional plein air oil manner, incorporating some heavy texture with palette knife.

New “Blazing a Trail” Abstracted Autumn Aspen Painting Niki Gulley

January 10, 2022

“Blazing a Trail” ©2021 Niki Gulley
36” x 18″ textured mixed media painting
on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.

“Heading to the Mountains” ©2021 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting on canvas panel

Just Sold through Marigold Arts Gallery!  Painting in the mountains, especially this year was so cathartic and emotional. It was such a joy to be there surrounded by these amazing fall colors, that it would bring me to tears every day. I felt so fortunate to be able to do this when so many people weren’t able to travel, that I poured my heart and soul into every painting. I hope that you can feel the joy that I felt when you see them.

New “Breaking Through” White Rock Lake Painting by Dallas Artist Niki Gulley

January 6, 2022

“Breaking Through,” White Rock Lake ©2021 Niki Gulley
24″ x 18″ textured oil painting

On a peaceful spring morning, I set up my easel at White Rock Lake to capture the sun rising behind this beautiful, tangled Cottonwood. I liked how the warm light accentuated the tree’s curves and textured bark, and I chose this vertical composition to show off its size and strength. In the distance, the light starts to break through the clouds,  causing  the water’s surface to glisten and illuminating the landscape. I hope this scene gives you a sense of peace and lifts your spirits for what the day has to bring.

“Through the Keyhole” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

January 3, 2022

“Through the Keyhole” ©2021 Niki Gulley
20” x 16” textured oil painting

I love the twisting, textured limbs of old oak trees, and the way these two branches formed a keyhole view of the forest beyond was fascinating. Arching the branches upward suggests a touch of whimsey like climbing a tree when you’re a kid. Loaded with texture and surprising pops of color, I hope you, too, are transported to an enchanted place filled with hope and wonder.

New “Rosy Surprise” Palette Knife Painting by Impressionist Niki Gulley

January 2, 2022

“Rosy Surprise” ©2022 Niki Gulley
16″ x 16″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

What a beautiful surprise to have these roses blooming in my garden this winter! Of course the next night it was supposed to freeze and I couldn’t let these beauties go to waste. After cutting and assembling them in a vase, I just kept staring at them as they were bringing so much color and joy to the grey day. Despite several projects on my plate, I had to take a break and capture these rosy fleeting blooms. May they bring some vibrancy to your winter days, too.

30″ x 48″ • Textured mixed media on canvas

I wanted this painting to be filled with uplifting colors and energetic strokes all leading you skyward, to soar amongst the clouds. Aspen trees reach towards the heavens while gentle breezes cause the sky to dance while you lay on the ground gazing in wonderment. Happy hues, whimsical shapes and a feeling of movement, hopefully transport you to a carefree childhood moment where all of your worries drift away and dreams are created.

“Soaring Dreams II” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

December 30, 2021

“Soaring Dreams II” ©2021 Niki Gulley
textured oil painting on canvas • 34″ x 34″

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up into the treetops and heavens above. Choosing uplifting golds and reds contrasted against a lavender-blue sky with gentle clouds drifting by, I’ve arranged the aspens in a circular pattern to give you a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest. Using diagonal leading lines with the tree trunks and limbs, your eye gazes into the focal point where all of the elements come together. Meanwhile, utilizing thick, curving paint strokes adds to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.
