“Spring’s Tapestry” Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

February 22, 2022

“Spring’s Tapestry” ©2020 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold through the Good Art Company! In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful day in April when the bluebonnets and wildflowers are painting the horizon in gorgeous shades of blue, reds and golds. Driving through the Hill Country late one day, the sun was just starting to drop, casting this golden hue across all of the wildflowers it hit causing them to glow and dance in the warm light. Deep, long  shadows added to the drama and magic of the moment. Focusing on the patterns of color and contrast of lights and darks, I wanted to communicate the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this Texas beauty.

New “Aspen Delight” Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

February 21, 2022

“Aspen Delight II”
24″ x 30″ textured mixed media painting on 1.5″ stretched canvas
with painting continuing around the sides

Painting in the mountains, especially this year was so cathartic and emotional. It was such a joy to be there surrounded by these amazing fall colors, that it would bring me to tears every day. I felt so fortunate to be able to do this when so many people weren’t able to travel, that I poured my heart and soul into every painting. I hope that you can feel the joy that I felt when you see them.

I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. The sun sets on the horizon, casting its beautiful glow across golden petals while perky, circular faces smile back at you. Magical light dances through the morning field, bringing sunshine and hope for the day to come.

“Sunny Dreams” Palette Knife Sunflower Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

24″ x 48″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath a glowing sky on a beautiful summer evening with the sunflowers in full bloom, you can just make out the stone farmhouse in the distance against a backdrop of purple mountains surrounding the plain. Creating almost a patchwork with the sunflowers and their leaves, unexpected pops of red and purple peek out creating a rhythm and energy to the foreground. Perky, circular faces smile back at you and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

“Blue Rhapsody II” ©2022 Niki Gulley
36″ x 36″ textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. With an aura of mystery and the promise of what tomorrow holds, late day light sparkles over the horizon casting its warm glow kissing everything it touches with glimmers of hope. The vague suggestion of bluebonnets and colorful wildflowers peek through the dancing golden tangle, leaving the landscape loose and free so that your imagination can tell its story. May you relish the joy in the beauty of nature, bathing in the moment and looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.

Abstract Bluebonnet and Indian Paintbrush Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

February 10, 2022

“Nature’s Brushstrokes III” ©2022 Niki Gulley
36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted to render Texas bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush very abstractly. Focusing on the patterns of color that those vibrant reds and cobalt blues form, allows you to feel the excitement of peering into a huge field of wildflower glory. Mysterious light tries to break through the distant foliage and begin to illuminate the blossoms, beckoning you to explore what’s beyond.
