In “Golden Transitions,” I wanted you to feel like you were deep in the middle of the woods surrounded by nature in all of its beautiful autumn glory. I painted these aspen trees with extremely thick oil paint so that the texture and colors leap off the canvas.

I wanted you to feel the joy and peacefulness of walking through the forest ablaze with color on a beautiful autumn day. With soft light illuminating the walkway and the distance sparkling in golden light, the only sounds to be heard are the crunching of fallen leaves underfoot and a slight breeze flickering the leaves overhead. “Coming Together” ©2013 Niki Gulley
textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas • 40″ x 30″
In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing calming greens against a lavender-blue peaceful sky and arranging the two main aspens so that they meet in the middle, suggests a feeling of togetherness. While organizing the outlying trees in a circular pattern and using thick, curving, bold orange brushstrokes, creates a joyful, playful mood.

“Bursting Forth” Palette Knife Birch Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

May 1, 2013
“Bursting Forth” ©2013 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 36″ x 60″ textured oil painting
Recently Sold to Prime Lending in North Dallas, Bursting Forth was painted with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives so that this canvas is loaded with texture and bursting with color, flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Combining short staccato strokes along with long sweeping passes with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.

Palette Knife Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

April 26, 2013
“Texas Pride II” ©2013 Niki Gulley
20″ x 30″ textured oil painting on canvas

I painted these Texas bluebonnets and with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this wildflower series, I’ve painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2″ deep stretcher bars so that the painting can be hung without a frame for a contemporary look. Or, I also have a beautiful espresso floater frame where you can still see the painted edges of the canvas if you prefer framed artwork.

Texas Pride II is also available in canvas prints. please e-mail Niki@NikiGulley.com for pricing and ordering information.

New Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley – Just Sold

April 24, 2013
“Destination Unknown” ©2013 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 36″ x 48” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas
Just Sold to Prime Lending in North Dallas. On one of our plein air painting trips we led, we happened upon this gorgeous aspen grove. Enjoying the melodic tinkling of the aspen leaves rustling in the breeze, the trickling sounds of the babbling brook at our backs, and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting. The setting was so peaceful and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery in this piece. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks towards the sky add to that uplifting feeling. And then just a sliver of the trail cutting through the forest, suggests the excitement of the journey that is to come.

New Poppy Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

April 22, 2013
Poppy Passion ©2013 Niki Gulley
18″ x 36″ • Textured painting on canvas

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. So in Poppy Passion, I combined memories of places I’ve been with intense saturated colors to convey that joy I feel when I come across a gorgeous field of poppies.

Autumn Aspen Trees painting by Niki Gulley – Just Sold

April 19, 2013
“Symphony of Colors” ©2013 Niki Gulley
36″ x 60″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold and now hanging in the art collection at Prime Lending in north Dallas!

Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen and Oak trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, scarlet and tangerine, with each light breeze. There is the quiet energy of change coming and vibrant color charges the woods. Crisp fall mountain air, a band of slender straight trunks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling tumble of amber and crimson. Staccato strokes and shimmering hues add to the feeling of change in the air and suggest the wind whistling through the foliage.

E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on her textured oil paintings of aspen and birch trees.
