“Visions of Wildflowers III” Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Visions of Wildflowers III” ©2019 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful April day when the bluebonnets are painting the horizon in blue. Driving through the hill country in springtime, there is such an amazing explosion of color from the bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, coreopsis, Evening Primrose and the plethora of wildflowers, that it fills your heart with joy and awe. Focusing on the rows of color, I wanted to communicate the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this Texas beauty.

“Rhapsody in Bloom II” Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Rhapsody in Bloom II” ©2019 Niki Gulley
20″ x 20″ textured oil painting

I painted these cheerful tulips from life in my backyard garden. With all of our rain this year, I had a bumper crop and wanted to capture the joy I felt seeing them signaling that winter was finally over and spring had begun! Created with palette knife and thick paint, this piece is bursting with color and texture. Blurring out the background, you can focus on each individual flower. Creating a circular composition within the square format creates a harmony and flow, while unblended diagonal marks add to the energy and happiness of the moment. I hope these tulips brighten your day and lift your spirits, too.

“Pearls of Sunshine” from Aix-en-Provence by Niki Gulley

“Pearls of Sunshine,” Aix-en-Provence, France ©2020 Niki Gulley
9″ x 12″ oil painting

Day 3, Provence Art Trek: Aix-en-Provence
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop
with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Today we checked out of our hotel and headed to Provence’s cultural hub and Cezanne’s home, Aix-en-Provence. After visiting its famous Cours Mirabeau boulevard, lined with cafés and plane trees and its morning produce and flower market, we parted from the photographers and set up our easels at this picturesque fountain courtyard. Having several hours to paint, we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful day and each painter’s unique view of the scene. Some focused on the fountain, others on the architecture and some on the nearby cafés. Everyone’s painting turned out great!

Next, we headed deep into the lavender country to our picturesque b and b, where we spent the rest of the trip. And, of course we completed the day with another delicious meal!

Recently collectors of mine invited us to stay with them at their beautiful home in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. I loved all of the gorgeous colors the houses were painted and the tropical lush foliage blooming everywhere.  The bougainvillea was bursting with bountiful blooms in intense pinks inviting you to stop and admire its beauty. Before it was gone, I had to capture this dramatic morning sun that was causing this peach home to glow and the light to dance across the scene in contrast to the deep shadows.

New “Ruby Path” Texas Wildflower Painting by Niki Gulley

“Ruby Path” ©2020 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil painting

I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our Indian Paintbrush, bluebonnets and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy mounds in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure to not over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Ruby Path is loaded with texture, color and movement. Vertical diagonal rows of ruby jewel tones lead your eye to the foliage in the distance, inviting you to stroll amongst the gorgeous wildflowers. Arranging the Indian Paintbrush  and bluebonnets vertically are designed to lift your spirits and add joy to your home.

For more information on “Ruby Path”, please contact my gallery, the Good Art Company, in Fredericksburg, TX at goodartcompany.com/gacart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=25&sort=20a&page=1&z.

New “Symphony in Springtime V” Abstract Wildflower Painting by Niki Gulley

“Symphony in Springtime V” ©2020 Niki Gulley
24″ x 24″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the bluebonnets and wildflowers along with their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way. With an aura of mystery, late day light touches the tops of the grasses and hills with glimmers of hope.

I wanted to show Texas’ spring landscape in a completely different way. With an aura of mystery and the promise of what tomorrow holds, late day light sparkles over the horizon casting its warm glow kissing everything it touches with glimmers of hope. The vague suggestion of bluebonnets and colorful wildflowers peek through the dancing golden tangle, leaving the landscape loose and free so that your imagination can tell its story. May you relish the joy in the beauty of nature, bathing in the moment and looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.
