“Memories of Sunshine II” Palette Knife Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

“Memories of Sunshine” was inspired by our trip to Provence, France. Our timing was perfect and the sunflowers were in full bloom. Their bright, smiling faces as big as dinner plates, the sun dappled path leading you deep into the golden field to the quaint stone farmhouse in the distance, and a beautiful summer day with a few peaceful clouds drifting by made for the ideal subject. The resulting painting is full of warmth, color and texture, and my hope is that when you gaze into it, this piece lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home.

“Autumn in Tuscany” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

During our Tuscany Foodie Trek, we stay in the middle of the countryside at a villa surrounded by 360 degree views of the rolling hills and valleys and nearby hill towns. One of the best vantage points and probably my favorite town in Tuscany is Pienza. Perched on high, the city towers over everything around and seems to actually draw the passing clouds to its bell tower and church steeple. This was a particularly gorgeous morning with beautiful puffy white clouds drifting by that created dramatic shadows in the recesses and golden light as it hit the autumn fields.

Just Sold through The Statton Gallery! This sunflower field that I visited in the middle of the pandemic was GORGEOUS. It felt like it stretched for miles. Bright, happy faces sharing their smiles with us and lifting our spirits. My heart literally swelled and I had to capture all of that joy on canvas. Utilizing vivid, uplifting hues, thick paint and bold, loose strokes add to the happy, carefree feeling of the moment and I hope you are transported there with me.

New “Scenic Byway” Palette Knife Oil Painting from New Mexico by Niki Gulley

Painted just outside of Santa Fe, the fall colors in were gorgeous! We arrived shortly after sunrise to capture the best light of the day, but unfortunately the temperature was starting out near 32 degrees. Luckily the temperatures rose quickly as the morning wore on, I was able to shed my parka and winter gear, and it ended up being a beautiful day. I hope you, too, enjoy a leisurely drive through the beautiful autumn scenery of New Mexico.

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. I liked how these rows of poppies and rolling grasses created a gentle harmony, inviting you to wander into the distance, getting lost in the moment. “Reaching to Heaven”

The white bark of these glorious aspens rising towards the sky, reminds me of the columns holding up the roof of a cathedral. With the electric blue sky combined with the vibrant yellow leaves, this is my idea of the heaven that is nature. As such, I want your eye to move upwards pulling the focus skyward with a sense of wonder and whimsy.

“Autumn Concerto II” Fall Birch Painting by Niki Gulley

Just sold through The Statton Gallery! I painted this colorful birch trees on location with the fall hues emerging in all of their glory. I loved this grove of trunks that twisted and turned, slicing bright white through the tangle of autumn leaves. Painted over several mornings, the air was crisp but the sun made for beautiful painting conditions that illuminated the subject and warmed the air. I hope you, too, can feel the thrill of being surrounded by nature on a perfect fall day.

“Woodland Adventure” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

I find being immersed in nature can have such an uplifting effect, and I wanted to share that feeling with you in Woodland Adventure. I chose pure, intense reds and yellows contrasted against autumn greens to create a fall forest that vibrates with color and energy. I placed the vivid foliage in diagonal sweeping shapes to create a sense of movement, so that you can feel the wind gently rustling the leaves and causing them to dance on a beautiful fall day.
