“Looking Up” New Red Barn oil painting by Niki Gulley
Recently sold! Full of fun and whimsy, I not only wanted to show the personality of this red barn but also make you feel like a kid again, climbing trees, swinging from their branches and returning to a simpler time in your childhood. Hinting that the barn has humanlike features, I feel like it, too, is inviting you to come play inside. Using vivid colors, distorted perspective and energetic thick oil paint strokes, I hope “Looking Up” brings joy to your home and reminds you of the simpler pleasures when you were a kid.
New “Autumn Tapestry” Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley
New “Fall’s Carnival” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley
Painted with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives so that this canvas is loaded with texture and bursting with color, flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this landscape to be filled with movement and vivacity, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. One zig zag passage of crimson foliage creates a focal point in the tangle of leaves and turnks while adding energy to the scene. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.
“Fall’s Carnival” along with several of my new palette knife paintings will be exhibiting at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. I find being immersed in nature can have such an uplifting effect, and I wanted to share that feeling with you in October Transitions. I chose vibrant warm reds. oranges and golds contrasted against cool mountains in the distance and a calming aqua blue sky to highlight autumn’s kaleidoscope of colors. Filled with layers of oil paint forming three-dimensional texture and utilizing unblended strokes, creates energy and movement throughout the canvas. The final painting is full of uplifting color and brings the beautiful outdoors into your home.

Canvas Prints now Available: Four 24″ x 24″ canvases are stretched on 3/4 inch stretcher bars with the image continuing around the edges to form a 48″ x 48″ quadriptych that does not need to be framed, just like the original . I have also added thick paint in some of the leaves and trunks to add even more texture and making each print one of a kind. Finally, I have coated the canvases with a UV varnish to protect the paintings. The canvases can be hung right up next to each other or spread apart by a few inches to come out to a maximum of 53″ x 53″.
