New Textured Bluebonnet Painting by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

 “Melting Blues” ©2022 Niki Gulley

36″ x 60″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

In this new series, I wanted to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. Working on oversized canvases and painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. Subconsciously, I feel like these light-filled visions came to me in response to so much bad news and the COVID lockdown. Searching for a way to create more space, room to roam and the freedom to live life to its fullest, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

“Popping Sunshine II” ©2021 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 24″ x 12″ textured mixed media on canvas

Just sold through The Good Art Company Gallery! I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of joy and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky with a few clouds drifting by on a beautiful day in springtime, the poppies and wildflowers are in full bloom. Abstract Poppy Field Painting by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

“Blossoming Dreams” ©2022 Niki Gulley
20″ x 30″ textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting I wanted to create a dream-like feel using one of my favorite flowers, the poppy. There is something awe-inspiring about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of vibrant, energetic crimson that delights your senses and lifts your spirits. Arranging the wildflower masses in the foreground to create waves of color and repeating those curving shapes throughout the landscape add to a sense of joyful harmony and tranquility.

New “Pops of Red” Textured Poppy Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Pops of Red” ©2022 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured mixed media painting on canvas

I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of vibrant poppies flowing along this grassy hill. Making sure to not over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Pops of Red II is loaded with texture, color and movement. Vertical diagonal rows of ruby jewel tones lead your eye to the foliage in the distance, inviting you to stroll amongst the gorgeous wildflowers. Arranging the blooms vertically are designed to lift your spirits and add joy and serenity to your home.

“Flowering Currents” Desert Landscape Painting by Niki Gulley

“Flowering Currents” ©2022 Niki Gulley
24” x 30″ textured mixed media painting
on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

On a visit to New Mexico, we were greeted to cheerful wildflowers blossoming, adding pops of joy and sunshine to the desert scenery. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms and their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. I liked how these rows of poppies and earth beneath them created a gentle harmony, inviting you to wander into the distance, getting lost in the moment. New “Fracturing Reality” Textured Abstract Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Fracturing Reality” ©2021 Niki Gulley

30” x 30” textured oil painting

Abstract realism – the synthesis of abstract and realistic painting. Borrowing abstract influences, such as focusing on color, line, shape and rhythm without a concrete, physical object and combining those concepts with depicting something from reality. When you marry these two genres, you get a new style of art that aims to illicit the emotions behind the subject.

In “Fracturing Reality,” I hope you feel rejuvenated as you gaze into nature’s wonders and escape into your dreams.
