I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of vibrant poppies flowing along this grassy hill. Making sure to not over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Popping Magic is loaded with texture, color and movement. Vertical diagonal rows of ruby jewel tones lead your eye to the foliage in the distance, inviting you to stroll amongst the gorgeous wildflowers. Arranging the blooms vertically are designed to lift your spirits and add joy and serenity to your home.

Painting Glorious Poppy Fields with Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Surrounded by a sea of crimson, not only were the wildflowers magnificent this year, but I just adore old, giant trees, too. Their massive stature and their outstretched branches creating a beautiful canopy and much needed umbrella of shade, just make me want to paint them over and over again. Leaving poppies large and prominent in the foreground, rows and rows of ruby jewel-toned blooms lift your spirits and lead you back to the shelter of the grandfather tree. I hope you, too, can enjoy the beauty of this uplifting place in all of its spring glory.

Just Sold through AO5 Gallery! Sun’s Bounty is inspired from the beautiful sunflower fields we visited in Provence, France. The flowers seemed to stretch forever and the color explosion was out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this happy location. Including surprising pops of vivid reds and purples keeps your eye moving throughout the scene, seeing new things each time you look at it, and adds to the joyful feeling.

“Blazing a Trail” Abstracted Autumn Aspen Painting Niki Gulley

Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.

“Cacophony” Textured Autumn Aspen Painting Niki Gulley

Enjoying the concert of aspen leaves rustling in the breeze and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting this aspen forest. The setting was so mesmerizing and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, all add to that uplifting feeling of being immersed in nature’s symphony.

In this painting I wanted to create a dream-like feel using one of my favorite flowers, the poppy. There is something awe-inspiring about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of vibrant, energetic crimson that delights your senses and lifts your spirits. Arranging the wildflower masses in the foreground to create waves of color and repeating those curving shapes throughout the landscape add to a sense of joyful harmony and tranquility.
