New “Looking Up II” Aspen Tree painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Looking Up II” ©2017 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil on canvas

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. I chose vibrant, cheerful yellows and golds contrasted against a blue sky with the clouds drifting so that as you gaze overhead, you get the feeling of not having a care in the world. One large trunk in the foreground guides you and gives you a sense of size and perspective, while leading your eye upward. Arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, all add to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.

New “Autumn Cascades” Palette Knife Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Cascades” ©2017 Niki Gulley
12” x 24” textured oil on canvas

Water pounds its way down the falls: cascading, rushing, charging into the riverbed — flowing over rocks, swiftly moving forward. Untamed, the surge finds its way over, under, around the boulder-strewn river. Tumbling waters drive up mists above the falls, the rhythmic sounds create a soothing harmony below, while autumn colors glow as we peer through the tangle of textured Aspen trees.

New “Aqua Rhythms” Palette Knife Seashore painting by Niki Gulley

“Aqua Rhythms” ©2016 Niki Gulley
9″ x 12″ textured oil painting

I wanted this painting to be about the power of water to uplift your spirits. Painted on location, I hope you can feel the tides lapping on the shore and hear the rhythmic, soothing sounds of the waves cresting and falling. Whenever I visit the seashore I always feel rejuvenated, and I hope I’ve translated that onto the canvas for you to experience it, too.

textured oil painting on canvas • 20″ x 30″
In “Kid’s Perspective” I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and heavens above. Choosing uplifting golds and soft shades of tangerine contrasted against a blue sky with gentle clouds drifting by, I’ve arranged the aspens in a circular pattern to give you a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest and to direct your eye to the focal point. Just Sold – Ireland palette knife oil painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Ring of Kerry,” Ireland ©2015 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 12″ x 24″ oil painting
This painting is inspired from our trip to the UK a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it rained non-stop for 27 of our 30 days abroad – and that was their “dry” season! We finally got a moment of reprieve on our drive around the Ring of Kerry in Ireland, when we came across this beautiful vantage point. The drizzle eased up for a few minutes and we could enjoy this panoramic view of the bay. I loved the multi-colored hydrangeas in the foreground adding a punch of color to all of the greens and grays. The sun breaking through the cloud cover added a touch of dramatic lighting to make everything come to life and sparkle.

Just Sold – “Scenic Route” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Dallas Artist Niki Gulley

“Scenic Route” ©2015 Niki Gulley
SOLD • Textured Oil Painting on wrap around canvas • 20” x 60”

My husband and I love exploring the back roads whenever we’re en route somewhere. We always discover such interesting places, and the scenery is so much more picturesque than along the highway. It’s fun to slow down and enjoy the journey with no agenda, which is what I had in mind when I painted “Scenic Route,” a beautiful autumn drive through the winding fall foliage.
