New “Rhythmic Waters” Palette Knife Seashore painting by Niki Gulley

“Rhythmic Waters” ©2018 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 9″ x 12″ textured oil painting

Just sold! I wanted this painting to be about the power of the ocean to lift your spirits. Painting this piece on location, I was hoping you could feel the ocean tides lapping on the shore and hear the rhythmic, soothing sounds of the waves cresting and falling like I was experiencing while painting it. Whenever I visit the seashore I always feel rejuvenated, and I hope I’ve translated that onto the canvas for you to experience it, too.

New “Autumn Cascades” Palette Knife Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Cascades” ©2018 Niki Gulley
12” x 24” textured oil on canvas

Water pounds its way down the falls: cascading, rushing, charging into the riverbed — flowing over rocks, swiftly moving forward. Untamed, the surge finds its way over, under, around the boulder-strewn river. Tumbling waters drive up mists above the falls, the rhythmic sounds create a soothing harmony below, while autumn colors glow as we peer through the tangle of textured Aspen trees.

Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley Receives “Best in Show”

©2018 Niki Gulley • textured oil paintings

I’m so excited and honored to have received “Best in Show” at Webster Groves Art Fair this summer! In my work I strive to capture the vibrant energy and intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings so as to uplift one’s spirits and suggest childlike wonder. In order to achieve the desired mood for my work, I combine an impressionistic flair for painting with a sculptor-like technique by applying paint thickly using palette knives, thereby creating multi-dimensional images. The resulting style achieves a richness of depth that explodes with color, flows with light, and evokes an emotional response. By utilizing vivid hues and contrasting the play of light and shadow to create drama, my broad energetic strokes add to a sense of vitality and motion, bringing my landscapes to life.

Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze while white sentinels slice through the colorful backdrop and create a rhythm as they march along. “Visions of Wildflowers” Palette Knife Bluebonnet Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“Visions of Wildflowers” ©2018 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms slightly abstract plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

New “Visions of Wildflowers II” Palette Knife Bluebonnet Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“Visions of Wildflowers II” ©2018 Niki Gulley
36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful April day when the bluebonnets are painting the horizon in blue. Driving through the hill country in springtime, there is such an amazing explosion of color from the bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, coreopsis and the plethora of wildflowers, that it fills your heart with joy and awe. Focusing on the rows of color versus a traditional landscape scene, I felt like I could communicate more of the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this Texas beauty. For more information on “Visions of Wildflowers” series, please contact my gallery, the Good Art Company, in Fredericksburg, TX at goodartcompany.com/gacart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=25&sort=20a&page=1&z.

“45mph” Winter Landscape Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“45 mph” ©2017 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 18” x 24” textured oil painting

Just sold! On one of our first trips together, my husband and I drove to Colorado to capture the fall foliage, and were greeted by one of the earliest snowfalls on record. While not the golden aspen glory we expected, the pristine white of that first dusting was beautiful. I loved this scenic overlook as we rounded the corner, and as you can see there was no shoulder to pull over on to capture the scene. So quickly grabbing my camera, I snapped away as we whizzed past. In this shot, I particularly liked a sliver of the school-bus-yellow 45mph sign contrasting against the vivid azure sky and framing the right side of the composition to lead your eye back into the breathtaking drive.
