I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of vibrant poppies flowing along this grassy hill. Making sure to not over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Popping Magic is loaded with texture, color and movement. Vertical diagonal rows of ruby jewel tones lead your eye to the foliage in the distance, inviting you to stroll amongst the gorgeous wildflowers. Painting Glorious Poppy Fields with Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Surrounded by a sea of crimson, not only were the wildflowers magnificent this year, but I just adore old, giant trees, too. Their massive stature and their outstretched branches creating a beautiful canopy and much needed umbrella of shade, just make me want to paint them over and over again. Leaving poppies large and prominent in the foreground, rows and rows of ruby jewel-toned blooms lift your spirits and lead you back to the shelter of the grandfather tree. I hope you, too, can enjoy the beauty of this uplifting place in all of its spring glory.

In this painting I wanted to create a dream-like feel using one of my favorite flowers, the poppy. There is something awe-inspiring about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of vibrant, energetic crimson that delights your senses and lifts your spirits. Arranging the wildflower masses in the foreground to create waves of color and repeating those curving shapes throughout the landscape add to a sense of joyful harmony and tranquility.

Visiting Vineyards and Wine Tasting with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

In the above painting you can see an example of the vineyards dotting the hills of this Tuscan region. With the weather turning colder, you can see the first signs of fall as these colorful grapevines turn beautiful oranges and golds. I was attracted to the vibrant vines contrasted against the progressive miles of rolling hills dotted with more grapevines, olive trees, and plowed grain fields. The gorgeous, plump purple grapes were ready to harvest at any moment. Setting up my easel across from this vineyard, I began recreating the soft light that would break through the clouds and illuminate various hilltops and plantings. I arranged the vines to lead your eye back to the hill town and the beautiful countryside. I hope you can taste the delicious wine and escape to Tuscany with me!
