“Morning Shadows” Textured Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

SOLD • 12″ x 9″ textured oil painting

Just sold! On the first night of our Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop that my husband, Scott Williams, and I led in southern France, we arrived at our B and B and went into town that evening for a wine tasting and amazing dinner at a Michelin-star restaurant. The food was out of this world, the weather was perfect for dining outside, and our new group was great company!

The next morning, our painters stayed at our b and b and painted right there since the grounds were so beautiful.The light raking across the balcony and shutters was so dramatic, and I loved how the gnarly trees framed the composition to make a window within a window. Meanwhile, the photographers visited a nearby 11th century Abbey and took some incredible photographs. We met up later that day and headed to the nearby town of Arles for lunch.

“Running Red” Textured Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

Just sold through AO5 Gallery! In this new series, I wanted to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. Working on oversized canvases and painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. Subconsciously, I feel like these light-filled visions came to me in response to so much bad news and the COVID lockdown. Searching for a way to create more space, room to roam and the freedom to live life to its fullest, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

“Ruby Trail” Poppy Painting from Tuscany by Niki Gulley

Inspired from a wonderful trip to Tuscany, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of joy and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky with a few clouds drifting by on a beautiful day in springtime, the poppies and wildflowers are in full bloom. Using broken impressionistic strokes in surprising hues, causes the landscape to dance and flow, and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

New “Prickly Tower” Contemporary Cactus Painting by Niki Gulley

48″ x 30″ Textured Mixed Media Painting on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

On a recent trip, we came across these gigantic cacti. I had never seen such a large cactus before and I was awestruck by its age and size. Purposely choosing this angle from below and narrowing the perspective as it stretches to the dramatic clouds drifting by in the sky, you can get a sense of its scale. Filled with vibrant colors and dragging my paint in swirling, diagonal patterns add to the energy and joy of the scene.
