Cinque Terre Plein-Air Painting Workshop

Inspired by our trip to the Cinque Terre (or translated, 5 lands) along Italy’s west coast, “Adrift,” shows one of the peaceful harbors among these 5 cities that hug the shoreline and are linked by an exhilarating hiking trail. I liked the lone boat anchored in this cove, leading your eye to the beach, and the contrast of the yellow against the crystal blue waters. The buildings, all brightly painted stack miraculously up the mountains in the distance, and create a colorful backdrop suggesting you are no longer in the United States. Cinque Terre is simply breathtaking!

I was inspired to paint this pastel of the beautiful rolling Tuscan hills and vineyards after our last Plein Air Painting / Photography Workshop that my husband and I taught in Tuscany. Not only were the views amazing, but the food and the wine were absolutely delicious, too!

New Winter Landscape Pastel

I love how beautiful the landscape is after first snowfall and when the sun starts to illuminate the tiny frosted crystals making everything sparkle with light. That perfect hour before civilization stirs and traffic turns the pristine white into dingy grey or the sun’s heat begins to melt the frosting on the delicate tree limbs. In Frosted Shadows, I want you to experience that evanescent moment when beautiful, vibrant colors are reflected everywhere from the lengthy shadows on the ground to the diamond-like icicle web above.

Whenever I can actually wake up by dawn, I am always inspired by the magical light that casts its glow across the horizon and am rewarded by the peacefulness before society starts stirring. In Daybreak, I wanted to capture that magical morning light and the quiet mysterious mood created from the sun’s rays peeking through the trees, casting their long dramatic shadows and softening the distant landscape.
