New Uplifting Sunflower Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Natural Flow III” ©2022 Niki Gulley

24” x  12” acrylic painting on canvas

I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our beautiful blooms in Texas as they spread their joy across the landscape. From bluebonnets carpeting the hills at the first sign of spring to vibrant poppies casting their energy as the season starts to flow into summer. Next, plentiful sunflowers greet you as the days turn longer, lifting your spirits with their smiling faces. Finally, the amazing aromas of lavender fill the air as summer kicks into full swing. In this  series, each painting can be hung alone, as a set or triptych, or if you’d like to enjoy the full glory of Texas in spring and summer, this “Natural Flow” quadriptych is designed to lift your spirits and add serenity to your home.

The sound of sheets flapping in the breeze caught my attention and brought me down the alleyway and resulted in one of those purely Italian moments.

New “Nova” Textured Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“Nova” ©2022 Niki Gulley
36″ x 36″ textured mixed media painting
on 1.5″ wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

Inspired by this gorgeous aspen grove, I wanted to capture the magical morning light casting its warm glow on the forest. Peaceful and mysterious, the sun’s rays peek through the knotted trunks causing the landscape to dance with light and awaken with autumn’s kaleidoscope of colors. Loaded with texture and layers and layers of paint, the forest shimmers with hope and discovery for the new day.

“Autumn Hideaway” by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Autumn Hideaway”  ©2022 Niki Gulley
16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

After we finished teaching our Art Trek to Vermont, my husband and I stayed another few days to try to capture the gorgeous scenery on canvas and film. This morning, we ventured up to the majestic overlook by the Von Trapp property to capture the spectacular scenery. I loved how this cabin was perfectly tucked into the mountainside surrounded by vibrant fall foliage. The slightly overcast day made the colors pop even more! I hope you, too, can enjoy the crisp autumn air and a peaceful escape from the bustle of city life.

New “Autumn’s Tapestry II” Kid’s Perspective Painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn’s Tapestry II” ©2022 Niki Gulley
textured oil painting on board • 20″ x 20″

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up into the treetops and heavens above. Choosing uplifting golds and reds contrasted against a turquoise-blue sky, I’ve arranged the aspens in a circular pattern to give you a sense of laying on the ground, surrounded by the forest. Using diagonal leading lines with the tree trunks and limbs, your eye gazes into the focal point where all of the elements come together. Meanwhile, utilizing thick, curving paint strokes adds to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.

“Standing Witness” Palette Knife Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Standing Witness”©2022 Niki Gulley
16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

Recently, we visited Santa Fe and to escape the heat we ventured up the Santo de Cristo mountains to cool down among the beautiful, refreshing aspen trees. I was attracted to this grove in particular with their beautiful textured white bark and their proximity and angles to each other. I decided to include the sentinels behind, also, to give you a sense of being surrounded by the peaceful forest. Dappled light casts diagonal shadows and causes the grasses to dance and sparkle. I hope you can feel the serenity of this rejuvenating place.

Visiting Siena, Italy – Tuscany Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

“Tunnel of Light,” Siena, Italy
SOLD • 12″ x 9″ oil painting by Niki Gulley

Day 3:  TUSCANY ART TREK – Siena
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Just Sold! On the third day of our Tuscany Art Trek, we visited the Medieval hill town of Siena, with its incredible marble Duomo, great people-watching plaza, and interesting alleyways radiating out from the campo with something new to discover around every turn. While some of our group shopped, some photographed and others relaxed on the square, I set up in one of the quiet cobble streets to capture the textures of these ancient walls and mood of this unique city. For dinner that night, we treated ourselves to a delicious home-made Italian meal of pastas, truffles, pecorino cheese and some amazing red wine!

A mid-afternoon gelato break!
