New “Marching into Autumn II” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

February 10, 2017

“Marching into Autumn II” ©2017 Niki Gulley
12″ x 24″ textured oil on canvas

I loved this brilliant aspen forest with its bright white aspen trunks slicing through all of the vibrant red and yellow foliage, contrasted against the multitude of greens surrounding it. The patterns of the trees created a sort of rhythm and I focused on the placement of the ivory sentinels and strokes in the leaves to add to that feeling of a driving beat. I hope you, too, can feel the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn is in full swing.

New “Chit Chat” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

February 1, 2017

30″ x 48″ textured oil painting

Shimmering in golden light, this backlit grove of aspen trees reaches tall, leaning left and then right towards the sun as it grew. The peeling trunks almost seem to move, even chatting with one another. A few trees weren’t so lucky and lay fallen at their feet, while the whole scene is filled with color, texture and movement to suggest the power of nature and its ability to enhance your spirit.

January 30, 2017

48″ x 24” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted you to you to experience the joy of looking up into the treetops – just like you did when you were a kid. Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by overhead. To accentuate that feeling, I chose this tall vertical canvas, giving you a sense of scale and perspective. New “Marching into Autumn” Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

December 23, 2016

“Marching into Autumn” ©2016 Niki Gulley
10″ x 20″ textured oil on canvas

I painted this colorful autumn scene near my home when the fall foliage was first starting to appear. I loved the vibrant reds, oranges and yellows of the cypress contrasted against the multitude of greens surrounding it. The patterns of the shadows underneath the trees created a sort of rhythm and I played up the angles of the trees and strokes to add to that feeling of a driving beat. I hope you, too, can feel the energy and joy of being surrounded by nature as autumn approaches.

New “Autumn Serenade” Palette Knife Fall Foliage Painting by Niki Gulley

December 14, 2016

36″ x 48″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen, Oak and the forest of trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, scarlet and tangerine, with each light breeze. There is the quiet energy of change coming and vibrant color charges the woods. Crisp fall mountain air, slender trunks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling kaleidoscope of colors. Staccato strokes and shimmering hues add to the feeling of change in the air and suggest the breeze whistling through the foliage.

New “Springtime in Tuscany” Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

December 12, 2016

24″ x 12″ textured oil painting

I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky on a beautiful day in springtime with the poppies and wildflowers in full bloom, I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

In this vertical wildflower series, I’ve framed the paintings in espresso floater frames so that you can still see the textured oil paint continuing around the edges of the canvas. These poppies look great hung alone or in a grouping, too!

Palette Knife Red Roses oil painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

November 25, 2016

12″ x 12″ Red Roses by Niki Gulley

textured oil painting on canvas

I painted these roses from the still life with extremely thick paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I’ve painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look.

This floral looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of my other contemporary flower paintings. Hang them horizontally, vertically, on a diagonal or stacked.

E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on this piece or to find out about complimentary companion paintings.

Hinting that the barn has humanlike features, I feel like it, too, is inviting you to come play inside. Using vivid colors, distorted perspective and energetic thick oil paint strokes, I hope “Looking Up” brings joy to your home and reminds you of the simpler pleasures when you were a kid.
