From our travels, I have become fascinated with the textures, hues and extreme variety we encounter in different terrains. This lone tree thriving in such a rocky, environment serves as a testament to the power and mystery found in nature. Softened bark from the desert winds contrasts against the jagged rock formation, givinig you a glimpse into nature’s strength.

New “Enduring Spirit” Palette Knife Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley
20″ x 16” textured oil on canvas
Standing tall and proud, this old soul sinks its gnarly roots into the cliff below, persistent and hopeful. I wanted you to get the feeling of staring up in wonderment like when you were a kid discovering things for the first time – noticing the unusual beauty and complexity of its infrastructure. Both grounded and reaching for the heavens, this organic skyscraper connects us to the mysteries of nature while encouraging childhood dreams.
New “Texas Roots” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Dallas Artist Niki Gulley
16″ x 20” textured oil on canvas
Painted on location, I was drawn to this magnificent Magnolia tree with its massive tangle of gnarly roots. Gripping the water’s edge, it anchors the foreground and leads you down the meandering creek where morning light shimmers across its surface. Adding unexpected pops of color, I wanted this painting to be full of joy while giving you a sense of peace in this protected oasis.

New “Interplay” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley
Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.

New “Colorful Carousel” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley
I wanted this painting to be about the power and energy in nature to invigorate your spirit, so I chose to use warm vivid colors contrasted against cool underbrush while utilizing thick staccato strokes to add to that feeling. I placed the fall foliage in curving sweeping shapes to create a sense of movement, so that you can feel the wind gently rustling the leaves and causing them to dance on a beautiful fall day.
New “Dreams Ahead” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley
Enjoying the melodic tinkling of the aspen leaves rustling in the breeze, the trickling sounds of the babbling brook at our backs, and the beauty of fall ablaze with color, I felt invigorated as I began painting this aspen forest. The setting was so peaceful and rejuvenating that I wanted to communicate that joyful feeling of discovery. Filling the canvas with energetic staccato strokes and bold colors, in addition to gently arching the tree trunks reaching towards the sky, add to that uplifting feeling. And then just a sliver of the trail cutting through the forest, suggests the excitement of the journey that is to come.
Just Sold – “Texas Two Step” Oil Painting by Niki Gulley
Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our vibrant Texas wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of the berms in the Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Texas Two Step is loaded with texture and color, and almost dances to life. Repeating patterns, shapes and hues unite foreground and background while two lone trees touch limbs and create a focal point in the distance.
