New Abstract Texas Bluebonnet and Wildflower Painting by Niki Gulley

“Bursts of Color” ©2020 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 12″ x 12″ textured mixed media painting

This next series of paintings have been appearing in my mind as I’m meditating. You’ll see they’re a twist on reality with nature abstracted through color, strokes and texture. I hope they lift you up and create a sense of mystery, leaving interpretation up to your imagination.

“Field of Dreams” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Field of Dreams” ©2020 Niki Gulley
Three 48″ x 36″ canvases to form a 48″ x 90″ triptych
textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Field of Dreams is inspired from the beautiful sunflower fields we visited in Provence, France. The flowers seemed to stretch forever and the color explosion was out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this happy location. Including surprising pops of vivid reds and purples keeps your eye moving throughout the scene, seeing new things each time you look at it, and adds to the joyful feeling.

“Autumn Journey” – Colorado Aspen Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Autumn Journey” ©2020 Niki Gulley
30” x 20″ textured oil painting

Inspired by a trip to Colorado in the fall, trying to catch the beautiful autumn aspens leaves before they dropped, we just caught the last glimpse of color before an early snowfall hit. The combination of golden leaves set against the vivid blue sky, and the cool snow shadows contrasted against glowing light highlights as the sun cast its warming rays, was a symphony to the eye! I hope you, too, can slow down and enjoy the beautiful scenery on this winding journey.

“Bundle of Sunshine” Sunflower Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

“Bundle of Sunshine” ©2020 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas, framed in an espresso floater frame
I was awestruck by these massive fields of sunflowers blooming in Provence. Seeing this brilliant carpet of gold, with its sea of faces smiling towards the sun, just made me feel happy and I wanted you to experience that joy, too. Exaggerating the tile-roofed house in the distance also adds to that cheerful, whimsical mood of feeling content and like you’ve found your home. Created with palette knife and oil paint, “Bundle of Sunshine” practically leaps off the canvas and comes to life with its vibrant yellow petals and extremely thick three-dimensional oil paint.

“Bundle of Sunshine” along with several of my contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings are available through my gallery, the Good Art Company, in Fredericksburg, TX at goodartcompany.com/gacart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=25&sort=20a&page=1&z.

New “Sun’s Bounty” Palette Knife Sunflower Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Sun’s Bounty” ©2019 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 30″ x 48″ textured mixed media painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath a glowing sky on a beautiful summer evening with the sunflowers in full bloom, you can just make out the stone farmhouse in the distance against a backdrop of purple mountains surrounding the plain. Creating almost a patchwork with the sunflowers and their leaves, unexpected pops of red and purple peek out creating a rhythm and energy to the foreground. Perky, circular faces smile back at you and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

New “Standing Witness” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“Standing Witness”©2019 Niki Gulley
16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

Recently,
we visited Santa Fe and to escape the heat we ventured up the Santo de
Cristo mountains to cool down among the beautiful, refreshing aspen
trees. I was attracted to this grove in particular with their beautiful
textured white bark and their proximity and angles to each other. I
decided to include the sentinels behind, also, to give you a sense of
being surrounded by the peaceful forest. Dappled light casts diagonal
shadows and causes the grasses to dance and sparkle. I hope you can feel
the serenity of this rejuvenating place.

“Table for Two” from Santorini by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Table for Two,” Santorini • by Niki Gulley
SOLD • 12″ x 9″ oil painting

Just sold! I
painted this peaceful scene on the last day of our Plein Air Painting
and Photography Workshop in Santorini, Greece. Having loved taking in
this view from our balcony for the past several days, I just had to
capture that gorgeous overlook on canvas. With its beauty, white-washed
buildings and the deep blue Aegean background, Santorini is one of the
most romantic places we have visited. The table set for two invites you
and your loved one to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and let all of your
cares slip away. Paradise!

New “Simple Life IV” Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

“Simple Life IV” ©2019 Niki Gulley
textured oil paint on canvas • 16″ x 20″

My
husband and I were on a road trip when we came across a couple of these
white house glowing on the horizon. Set among vibrant green gently
rolling hills with the intense blue ocean in the distance, something
beckoned us to stop. Maybe it was the quiet beauty of the scene, or the
nostalgic tug at a simpler life, but we were both moved to capture the
moment. To convey that feeling of a less congested life, I accentuated
the the basic shapes of the homes against the simple repetive curves of
the hills. Meanwhile a few wispy clouds drift by adding to the
tranquility of the moment. I hope you are transported to this memory of
our past, before modern life got so complicated.
