New “Waves of Wildflowers IV” Texas Hill Country Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“Waves of Wildflowers IV” Texas Hill Country ©2019 Niki Gulley
12″ x 24″ textured oil painting

Painted on location in the Texas Hill Country, I was drawn to this expansive mass of yellow wildflowers, stretching all the way from foreground to background. The explosion of sunny color made me feel so happy that I wanted to capture that joy and excitement in my painting. To create that mood, I decided to leave a lot of crimson and gold in the sky to enhance that feeling while using diagonal staccato strokes to suggest energy and drama. Long sweeping shapes that flow across the horizontal panorama canvas add to the peace and happiness of being surrounded by Texas Wildflowers on a beautiful spring day.

“Waves of Wildflowers III,” Texas Hill Country ©2019 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

Just Sold! I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of the berms so indicative of the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Waves of Wildflowers III is loaded with texture, color and movement. Vertical curving rows of cobalt and crimson lead your eye to the oak tree rising from the distance, providing some afternoon shade. I hope my painting lifts your spirits and adds joy to your home.

New “April Flow” Texas Wildflower Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

“April Flow,” Texas Hill Country ©2019 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

Just Sold! Recently we loaded up the car and headed south to visit the Texas Hill Country to see the wildflowers in bloom. The thick patches we found did not disappoint! It’s so exciting to see a massive carpet of rainbow colors across our usually green hills, and I love how the bluebonnets signal that spring has arrived! After delivering new art to my gallery, The Good Art Company, in Fredericksburg we ventured north to the Willow City Loop to take in the breathtaking vistas and plethora of wildflowers that normally fill the landscape there. I was drawn to this peaceful river nestled into the shallow valley with abundant wildflowers adorning the hills on both sides. Erecting my easel along the upper bank, I set out to capture this colorful view, full of texture, energy and uplifting spring hues.

New “Daybreak” Palette Knife Seascape by Niki Gulley

“Daybreak” ©2018 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 9″ x 12″ textured oil painting

Just Sold! I wanted this painting to be about the power of seawater to lift your spirits. Painting this piece on location, I was hoping you could feel the tides lapping on the shore and hear the rhythmic, soothing sounds of the waves cresting and falling like I was experiencing while painting it. Whenever I visit the beach I always feel rejuvenated, and I hope I’ve translated that onto the canvas for you to experience it, too.

“Over the Hills III” Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Over the Hills III” ©2018 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! Last spring we loaded up the car and headed south to visit the Texas Hill Country to see the wildflowers in bloom. While not as prolific as some years, the thick patches we found did not disappoint. It’s so exciting to see a massive carpet of blue across our usually green hills, and I love how the bluebonnets signal that spring has arrived! For our next stop on our Texas adventure, I decided to paint in Austin since the wildflowers were so prolific there. This field was covered with not only the bluebonnets that I love, but also the Indian Paintbrush and Indian Blanket that fills me with energy and joy when I see a field of all of that red! The blossoms formed such rhythmic rows as they iced the rolling hills that I set out to capture that harmony and movement in this piece. Painted with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture, the resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and excitement.

“Autumn Serenade II” Palette Knife Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Serenade II” ©2018 by Niki Gulley
SOLD • 30″ x 40″ original textured oil painting

Just sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! Flickering autumn leaves seem to almost dance in a gentle breeze. I wanted this scene to be filled with movement and energy, so I incorporated a lot of diagonal and curving shapes in the design to suggest that feeling. Contrasting short staccato strokes against blended passages with my palette knives, also increase that sense of motion. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of walking through the woods on a beautiful fall day, letting your cares slip away and your spirit being invigorated.

Day 7, afternoon location: Villa Babianello

After a busy schedule the day before, several of the group opted to take it easy and join a cooking class while others visited the castle in town and I chose to paint the gorgeous view from our balcony.

Late that afternoon, we visited the Botanic garden in Varenna, which is spectacular with its colorful tropical plantings, elaborate villa, sculptures and fountains, and fantastic views along the lake. What a great day!

Day 5: Arriving in Varenna on Lake Como

Next up on our Cinque Terre and Lake Como Art Trek, we drove to the peaceful town of Varenna at the northern end of Lake Como. Our hotel has the most amazing views of the lake and the colorful town below. It’s my idea of paradise!I love the mountainous scenery surrounding the lake, the unique architecture and the lush foliage that grows everywhere. Strolling along the shore, hopping from town to town on the ferry, and just relaxing on a balcony soaking in that amazing view, are some of the highlights visiting there. On this evening, I set up my easel to capture the soft pinks and yellows as the sun set in the distance over the peaceful village, filling the scene with a magical light.
