Follow the path leading you through bright, smiling sunflower faces as big as dinner plates, filling you with more joy with each step. A quaint stone farmhouse in the distance welcomes you to come in and enjoy the view as the sun starts to set over the horizon and cast its late day glow. Full of warmth, color and texture, my hope is that when you gaze into this piece, it lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home.

“Royal Rows” Lavender Field Painting by Niki Gulley

 Royal Rows ©2021 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 20” x 30” textured mixed media on canvas

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! Inspired by a trip to Provence, these lavender fields were gorgeous and stretched as far as the eye could see! I wanted to focus on the perfectly planted purple rows, contrasted against the vibrant yellow sunflowers in the distance. I love how those colors pop next to each other. Fluffy clouds drift by in diagonal patterns that mimic the lavender aisles and create a harmony throughout the scene. Perspective lines converge, leading you to this joyful spot and I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene.

“Evolving Seasons” Large Scale Quad Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Evolving Seasons” ©2022 by Niki Gulley

Four 48″ x 36″ textured oil painting to form a 48″ x 144″ quadriptych

I wanted to create a large horizontal quadriptych, or four piece painting, that would flow from one season to the next to show the beauty of the forest throughout the year. Working on such a large scale invites you to step right into the scene and take a walk through the woods, enjoying all of the peace and joy that nature has to offer.

Here you can see all four paintings in a row, flowing from spring to summer and fall to winter. Rather than show the same exact scene at four different times of year, I decided I would rather show one long forest evolving from one season to the next to create a better harmony across the canvases. From the ground gently undulating underneath, to the pine trees flowing from canvas to canvas, to the rhythm created from aspens and oaks repeating, to the foliage and pops of color emerging and drifting into the distance, all elements are designed to add to the flowing symphony in “Evolving Seasons.

“Enduring Legacy” Texas Landscape by Impressionist Artist Niki Gulley

“Enduring Legacy” ©2022 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 24″ x 12″ textured acrylic painting on 1.5″ gallery wrap canvas with the scene continuing around the edges

Just sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! These two massive, gnarly trees seemed to rise out of nowhere amongst the rolling fields of Texas bluebonnets.  I feel like they had a story to tell, and I needed to capture their enduring presence by making them the focus of my painting. Purposely choosing this elongated canvas gives their trunks and limbs plenty of room to express their legacy and emphasize their majesty. Exciting pops of color, energetic strokes and a touch of whimsy add to the joy of these ancestral beauties.

Gnarly Live Oak Trees from Louisiana by Niki Gulley

“Grandfather Trees”  ©2022 Niki Gulley •  9″ x 12″ palette knife oil painting

On the final day of our New Orleans Art Trek, we drove out to Oak Alley Plantation and were awed by its impressive grounds and 300 year old oak trees. Enjoying the quiet after the busy bustle of New Orleans, I set out to capture the beauty of these old gnarled trees.

Day 3, Alsace, France Art Trek: Konigsberg Castle and Riquewihr
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop
with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

By day 3, our group was over any jet-lag remnants and raring to go, so we packed the day with fun activities! First we explored Konigsberg Castle, a fortress from the Middle Ages that has been completely renovated to its former glory. Next, we visited the Medieval village of Riquewihr, surrounded by vineyards in every direction. After exploring all of the alleyways and shops and grabbing a gourmet lunch, it was time for some wine tasting. Alsace being known for its delicious white wines, we were not disappointed.

Later that day, we returned to Colmar to relax and enjoy another delicious dinner together with new friends while we discussed our adventures from the day.

Day 2, Alsace, France Art Trek: Eguisheim
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop
with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

After painting and photographing sunrise in Colmar, we headed to the next adorable village, Eguisheim.
Known as one of the most beautiful villages in France, this town does not disappoint! Immaculate flower filled window boxes, a bustling town square and colorful architecture greets you in every direction. Us painters set up around the fountain in the main square to capture the spirit of the city while our photographers and tourists explored the rest of all the town had to offer.

Day 2, Alsace, France Art Trek: Sunrise in Colmar
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop
with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Just Sold! This morning I dragged my body and my painting gear in the darkness to set up at this picturesque view in downtown Colmar along with the photographers who got up to capture sunrise. As the sun started rising, it illuminated the buildings and cast its colorful glow along the river and the sky. I’m so glad I made the effort and got up in time to capture it, even if the rest of my painters decided to sleep in!

Day 1, Alsace, France Art Trek: Kaysersberg
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop
with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

For our first Art Trek of 2022, we led our group to the fairytale villages of Alsace, France. Located along the French/German border, each town is a visual paradise consisting of brightly colored cross-timbered houses and flower boxes overflowing with vibrant, cheerful blooms. The hardest part is narrowing down what to paint!

On our first full day, we visited the picturesque town of Kaysersberg. Nestled on a peaceful river, this colorful village provided plenty of inspiration for our painters and photographers. We set up our easels to capture this waterfall and cross-timbered houses while the photographers and tourists explored the rest of town. Later that day, we returned to our home base town of Colmar, taking a leisurely boat ride through the canals and dined on an authentic Alsatian meal that evening. What a great way to start the trip!

The Beauty of Texas Flowers – 4 Piece Painting by Niki Gulley

“Natural Flow” Series ©2022 Niki Gulley

Four 24” x  12” acrylic paintings on canvas to form a 24″ x 48″ quadriptych

I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our beautiful blooms in Texas as they spread their joy across the landscape. From bluebonnets carpeting the hills at the first sign of spring to vibrant poppies casting their energy as the season starts to flow into summer. Next, plentiful sunflowers greet you as the days turn longer, lifting your spirits with their smiling faces. Finally, the amazing aromas of lavender fill the air as summer kicks into full swing. In this  series, each painting can be hung alone, as a set or triptych, or if you’d like to enjoy the full glory of Texas in spring and summer, this “Natural Flow” quadriptych is designed to lift your spirits and add serenity to your home.

Please visit the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX at goodartcompany.com/niki-gulley for more details on this “Natural Flow” series filled with joy, color and texture!
