New “Dripping Blues” Textured Poppy Painting by Niki Gulley

 “Dripping Blues” ©2020 Niki Gulley

36″ x 60″ Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

In this new series, I wanted to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. Working on oversized canvases and painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. Subconsciously, I feel like these light-filled visions came to me in response to so much bad news and the COVID lockdown. Searching for a way to create more space, room to roam and the freedom to live life to its fullest, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

New “Pops of Red” Textured Poppy Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

Pops of Red” ©2020 Niki Gulley
24″ x 12″ textured mixed media painting on canvas

I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of vibrant poppies flowing along this grassy hill. Making sure to not over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature, Pops of Red II is loaded with texture, color and movement. Vertical diagonal rows of ruby jewel tones lead your eye to the foliage in the distance, inviting you to stroll amongst the gorgeous wildflowers. Arranging the blooms vertically are designed to lift your spirits and add joy and serenity to your home.

I’m excited to have been invited to exhibit at Studio Seven Arts in Pleasanton, CA. If you’d like to see or find out more details about Pops of Red, please check them out:

Daily Painting #33

“Texas Blue” #9 ©2020 Niki Gulley
5″ x 5″ textured acrylic painting
The Indian Paintbrush was blazing in the sun behind the Bluebonnets and gave them a great color separation. It is one of things that I look for when I am selecting an area to paint.

The way that irises flow lends itself well to my style of painting. Their shapes are so organic, they just seem to spill from the plant like water. Then you throw in some of the most incredible colors and I am a happy camper! If you’re interested in purchasing this painting and seeing a close up of its thick texture, just follow this link https://www.nikigulley.com/iris-on-parade-6/?.

When we planted the garden a couple of years ago we went with re-blooming irises so that we would have flowers throughout the year. I wasn’t quite sure how often they would bloom or how long they would last, but I have been very pleased with what they have been doing this year.If you’re interested in purchasing this painting and seeing a close up of its thick texture, just follow this link https://www.nikigulley.com/iris-on-parade-5/?.
