New “Blanket of Crimson” Tuscany Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. So when my husband and I came across this gorgeous ruby blanket in Tuscany we had to stop and capture the moment. I liked how the rows of poppies and rolling hills created a gentle harmony leading you to the quintessential stone farmhouse in the distance. I hope you, too, can feel the joy of a perfect spring day in Tuscany!

“Lone Star Blooms” Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

In this painting, I wanted to capture the rhythm, color, and density of our bluebonnets and vibrant wildflowers flowing along the grassy rises and falls of our berms in the Texas Hill Country. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the blooms slightly abstract plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way.

In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful April day when the bluebonnets are painting the horizon in blue. Driving through the hill country in springtime, there is such an amazing explosion of color from the bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, coreopsis, Evening Primrose and the plethora of wildflowers, that it fills your heart with joy and awe. Focusing on the rows of color, I wanted to communicate the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this Texas beauty.

The vague suggestion of bluebonnets and colorful wildflowers peek through the dancing golden tangle, leaving the landscape loose and free so that your imagination can tell its story. In this Texas wildflower series, I wanted to capture the excitement and energy felt during a beautiful day in April when the Indian Paintbrush, bluebonnets and wildflowers are painting the horizon in gorgeous shades of reds and blues. Driving through the Hill Country late one day, the sun was just starting to drop, casting this golden hue across all of the wildflowers it hit causing them to glow and dance in the warm light. Deep, long shadows and the abundance of rich crimson Indian Paintbrush added to the drama and magic of the moment. Focusing on the patterns of color and contrast of lights and darks, I wanted to communicate the emotion felt being surrounded by all of this Texas beauty.
