It is incredible how quickly time goes by when I am painting. It seems like just a few minutes have passed, but when I look up and the light has changed and my stomach is growling, I realize that it has been a few hours. That is what I love so much about the creative process. If you’re interested in purchasing this painting and seeing a close up of its thick texture, just follow this link  https://www.nikigulley.com/seasonal-changes-2/.

New “Kid’s Perspective II” Palette Knife Aspen Tree painting by Niki Gulley

“Kid’s Perspective II” ©2016 Niki Gulley
36″ x 36″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

In this painting, I wanted you to you to experience the joy of looking up into the treetops – just like you did when you were a kid. Lying on the ground, not a care in the world, you gaze in wonderment as the clouds drift by. Choosing playful colors and thick chunky staccato strokes add to that childlike whimsy and I hope you are transported back to a happy, carefree time and place.

“Coming Together” Textured Aspen Tree oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Coming Together” ©2013 Niki Gulley
textured oil painting on gallery wrap canvas • 40″ x 30″
In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing calming greens against a lavender-blue peaceful sky and arranging the two main aspens so that they meet in the middle, suggests a feeling of togetherness. While organizing the outlying trees in a circular pattern and using thick, curving, bold orange brushstrokes, creates a joyful, playful mood.

“Seasons of Change, Summer” Textured Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“Seasons of Change, Summer” ©2013 Niki Gulley
30″ x 30″ textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

With “Seasons of Change,” I wanted to focus on brilliant color and simple shapes to see if I could communicate the excitement I feel when surrounded by nature. Using energetic diagonal strokes and thick, textured paint, I hope you get a sense of the motion in the leaves and the power of nature to invigorate your spirit. I just love how this piece captured that essence!

This image looks great hung alone or with its companion piece pictured below.

“Seasonal Shifts, Spring” ©2012 Niki Gulley
12″ x 12″ textured oil on canvas

I painted this aspen grove with extremely thick oil paint and palette knife. The resulting canvas is loaded with texture, color and energy! I’ve painted it on 1 and 1/2 inch deep stretcher bars, with the image continuing around the edges so that it can be hung as is frameless for a contemporary look. This image looks great hung alone to brighten up a little spot, or in a grouping with some of the other seasons I’ve painted to fill a larger space.
