“Morning Along the Shoreline” Palette Knife Oil Painting by Dallas Artist Niki Gulley

“Morning Along the Shoreline” ©2019 Niki Gulley
16″ x 20” textured oil on canvas

Painted on location, I was drawn to this magnificent Magnolia tree with its massive tangle of gnarly roots. Gripping the water’s edge, it anchors the foreground and leads you down the meandering creek where morning light shimmers across its surface. Adding unexpected pops of color, I wanted this painting to be full of joy while giving you a sense of peace in this protected oasis.

“Over the Hills III” Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Over the Hills III” ©2018 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 16″ x 20″ textured oil painting

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! Last spring we loaded up the car and headed south to visit the Texas Hill Country to see the wildflowers in bloom. While not as prolific as some years, the thick patches we found did not disappoint. It’s so exciting to see a massive carpet of blue across our usually green hills, and I love how the bluebonnets signal that spring has arrived! For our next stop on our Texas adventure, I decided to paint in Austin since the wildflowers were so prolific there. This field was covered with not only the bluebonnets that I love, but also the Indian Paintbrush and Indian Blanket that fills me with energy and joy when I see a field of all of that red! The blossoms formed such rhythmic rows as they iced the rolling hills that I set out to capture that harmony and movement in this piece. Painted with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture, the resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and excitement.

Nighttime in St. Mark’s Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

“Nighttime in St. Mark’s,” Venice ©2019 Niki Gulley
9″ x 12″ textured oil painting

Venice is one of the most romantic cities I’ve visited, and at night it is especially dreamy, quieting down from the tourist traffic and filled with sparkle and energy.  In St. Mark’s Square, you can hear the sounds of live music while couples dine al fresco or stroll through the dimly lit open corridors. Gorgeous marble tile floors line the walkways while golden arches frame the iconic views. I wanted to capture that magical feeling and transport you back to fond memories of your Venetian vacation.

New Santorini Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Table for Two,” Santorini • by Niki Gulley
12″ x 9″ oil painting

I painted this peaceful scene on the last day of our Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop in Santorini, Greece. Having loved taking in this view from our balcony for the past several days, I just had to capture that gorgeous overlook on canvas. With its beauty, white-washed buildings and the deep blue Aegean background, Santorini is one of the most romantic places we have visited. The table set for two invites you and your loved one to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and let all of your cares slip away. Paradise!

Next May we will be leading an Art Trek to Athens and Santorini, Greece. So if you’ve always dreamed of painting, photographing and sightseeing abroad, please join us for this amazing trip! Other trips we will be leading soon include:

New Positano Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

14″ x 18″ textured oil painting by Niki Gulley
SOLD • Amalfi Coast

Recently I was commissioned to paint this special memory from the Amalfi Coast for one of my collectors. He was amazed by the abundance of fresh produce and vibrant colors of this fruit and vegetable vendor that was set up alongside the gorgeous backdrop of the Italian Riviera. Wanting a more traditional feel to the scene, I painted it with oil paint and brushes. If you are interested in commissioning me to paint a unique, special memory for you, please e-mail me and I’ll be happy to help.

New Reykavik Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

9″ x 12″ textured oil painting by Niki Gulley
Reykavik, Iceland

My husband and I rounded out our Iceland adventure by finishing in the capitol city of Reykavik. While a lot more peaceful than Dallas, TX, it was quite a contrast to be in the bustling city after the vast peacefulness of the countryside. One of the things I liked about Reykavik was how colorful the buildings were painted and how much that brightened up a grey day. Setting out to capture those fun colors and the energy of the city, I chose to paint this overview of town with main street leading your eye all the way down to the harbor. Created with palette knife and a lot of paint, I wanted to leave this painting fairly loose to add to that lively feeling and energetic vibe I felt in Reykavik.
